Statue of Liberty, New York

Presidential heads at Mount Rushmore, South Dakota

In a rock face of the Black Hills is a very special eye-catcher. The most important presidents of the United States at the time, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, have been looking down on the awestruck visitors here since October 1941. A circular walkway, viewing platform, information boards, visitor centre and souvenir shop form a veritable theme park around the four presidents' heads in Mount Rushmore.

Empire State Building, New York

If you visit New York City, you simply have to go up to the Empire State Building! The striking Art Deco skyscraper is one of the most famous in the world - be it because of its aesthetics, its dominance of the New York skyline or various appearances in film and television. At just under 400 metres, the Empire State Building is not even particularly tall, but it was the world's tallest building for 40 years - longer than any other building to date.
