The ostrich farm on the Caribbean island of Curaçao is a wonderful diversion for the whole family. Besides a ride on an ostrich, crocodiles and numerous exotic birds can also be marvelled at.
The ostrich farm on the Caribbean island of Curaçao is the largest ostrich farm outside of Africa and is one of our top 10 sights of Curaçao. It is located near Sint Jorisbaai in the southeast of Curaçao and is easily accessible by car via the Kaya Mitologia. The access road to the ostrich farm is not asphalted, but off-road vehicles are not required.
Arriving at the ostrich farm, one really feels transported to the Black Continent. Already at the entrance, African masks and figures greet the visitors before a walkway equipped with information brochures leads to the restaurant "Zambezi". From there, the tours of the ostrich farm start, which are conducted by jeeps or pick-ups, just like on an African safari, and last about an hour.
Tour of the ostrich farm
The tour of the Curaçao ostrich farm takes you past various enclosures where the guide stops again and again to tell you interesting facts about the animals. In addition to the ostriches, crocodiles and a tapir can also be admired on the tour.
The highlight of the tour is a photo with an o strich and (for an extra charge) you can even take a ride on an ostrich until early afternoon. The offspring of the ostrich families are kept in their own enclosure.
Tip: Even if you don't want to do the tour, you can explore the wildlife of the ostrich farm on the outskirts. From the forecourt of the Zambezi restaurant, parrots, turkeys, chickens, pigs, peacocks and also some ostriches can be observed.
After the tour, an ostrich steak at the Zambezi restaurant or a stroll through the shop, which is well-stocked with original African handicrafts and almost borders on a museum, are tempting.
