The climate in Romania is temperate continental. Winters are often cold and can be very snowy, summers are warm and can sometimes be very hot. Basically, the climate in Romania often has very extreme characteristics. There can be very mild but also extremely cold winters, as well as pleasantly mild summers or summers with extreme heat and drought. A lot is possible.

Theareas to the west of the Carpathians (Cluj, Timisoara, Sighișoara) are often humid in summer and this is where the most rain falls in Romania. Winters are often not as harsh as in the east of the country.

In themountainous regions of the Carpathians and the Moldavia there are usually very cold and snowy winters. Here the influence of the weather from Ukraine is very strong. Summers are sunny and warm to hot.

Theplains south of the Carpathians and the coastal areas around the Black Sea are relatively mild compared to the rest of the country. Summers are hot but bearable. Winters are relatively mild due to the Mediterranean influence.

Thebest time to travel in Romania is from May to October. It should be noted that May and June are very rainy. In September and October it is quite dry, but it can also get very cool.

Winter sports are possible in the Carpathians from December to April. The famous Transfagarasan and Transalpina panoramic roads are best in June, July and August. Before and after, there can be snow and road closures.
