Little Lykos in the south of Crete captivates with complete seclusion, idyllic terraces directly on the beach and a crystal-clear sea whose tranquillity is hardly disturbed.
The tiny village of Lykos is located on the south coast of Crete and is the right place for Crete holidaymakers, especially those seeking peace and quiet. There are only a few tavernas on the coast that rent out a few rooms in complete seclusion. If you are looking for hustle and bustle, you are wrong here; the only sound at night is the gentle gurgling and crashing of the waves.

Journey to Lykos

Lykos is about 80km south of Chania and less than a kilometre from Loutro. Most visitors come by boat from Chora Sfakion or Loutro. However, there are no regular connections, the boats are either private or rented.
By rental car, the route to Lykos leads from Chora Sfakion via Anopolis in the direction of Livaniana. Between Anopolis and Livaniana, a road branches off that leads to Finix Bay and Lykos. From Anopolis, the drive takes about half an hour and leads through the dreamlike natural landscape of southern Crete.
Lykos beach

The beach at Lykos is quite rocky, which is perhaps a little uncomfortable for sunbathing, but ideal for snorkelling! Numerous fish cavort in the unclouded water, which can be observed very well without dangerous currents. Only the few boats that moor at the small pier now and then disturb the tranquillity of the sea.
Particularly attractive, even above water, is the absolute tranquillity offered by Lykos beach. Every now and then, the ferry between Agia Roumeli and Chora Sfakion passes through the glittering Mediterranean, carrying hikers from the famous Samaria Gorge, otherwise there is practically nothing going on.
Excursion destinations around Lykos

In the surroundings of Lykos there are also some fantastic beaches that are worth a visit. For example, the idyllic Finix Bay on the other side of the hill, where there are also only a few houses and a privately run hotel.
Also worth mentioning is the sandy Marmara beach at the exit of the Aradena Gorge a few kilometres to the west. Between Loutro and Marmara beach runs the European long-distance hiking trail E4, which also passes Lykos.
