To call the Cité de l'espace on the eastern edge of Toulouse a space museum is almost a bit of an understatement. More accurate would be "space and space adventure park".

We've named the "Space City" one of our top 10 places to visit in Toulouse, because here you won't just be wandering through exhibitions, you'll also be seeing the world's most beautiful buildings:

  • walks on the moon
  • learns about the inner workings of the MIR space station
  • Travels back in time to the Big Bang
  • trained like an astronaut
  • experiences the formation of the earth and
  • feel like a dwarf under the mighty Ariane rocket.

As France 's capital for aeronautics and space travel, there is hardly a better place to explore the sky and outer space. In June 1997, the Cité de l'espace opened as an ingenious mix of museum, research station, theme park and adventure park.

250 interactive exhibits let visitors experience and try out the wonders of the universe and the technical achievements for its exploration up close. Where else can you launch an Ariane rocket and place a satellite in orbit?

All questions about the solar system, the everyday life of an astronaut, how satellites work, telecommunications and weather forecasting are also answered here.

A gigantic planetarium and an IMAX 3D cinema with an equally gigantic screen will take you on an unforgettable journey through space and time to the farthest corners of the universe.

On a 3.5-hectare open-air site, technical witnesses to mankind's conquest of space, some of them true to the original, can be found. The outdoor highlights of the space park include the full-size, 55-metre-high model of the ESA launch vehicle Ariane 5 and the MIR space station, which has been recreated down to the smallest detail.
